Hand-make a sterling-silver ring
Use a traditional metalworking technique to progressively create your individual sterling-silver ring.
In this one day course Nathan Thomas will guide you through the process of measuring your ring-size, calculating the amonut of metal you will use, by annealing, forging and shaping, soldering and joining, filing, sanding and polishing your piece to enliven your idea.
The workshop runs for 4 hours.
In this workshop you will be cover the following:

Measuring and estimating amounts: You will learn how to estimate the amount of metal required for your design, and estimate costs. You will also learn the most important formulas for calculations, and where to find current market prices for different metals.

Understandin silver: You will learn the difference between sterling silver and pure fine silver as well asl how to create the alloy sterling silver using copper.

Silver forging skills: You will delve right into silver forging, and learn about measuring & marking, rolling, hammering, bending, drawing and annealing.

Understanding soldering: You will learn the different types of solder, what they are most suited to and how to use them. You will learn about flux including powder Borax, what it is and how to use it.
It is suitable for complete beginners through to intermediate and advanced students. We take every safety precaution to make the workshops fun and safe, and participation in the workshop is strictly voluntary and at the participant's own risk.
